VosConsult was established by Dr. Josef H. Jilek in 2002 and is involved in the polymers and coatings field on an international level, helping clients to place their products in various emerging markets. The main emphasis is on countries in Central and Eastern Europe, but the company is also active in South America, the Middle East and Africa.
VosConsult also offers the know-how to formulate and produce a wide range of resins, both water and solvent based. Examples are acrylic and styrene/acrylic dispersions, alkyd resins, unsaturated polyesters and others.
A variety of paint and coatings formulations can be offered to solve a multitude of technological challenges. This includes architectural and industrial paints, traffic paints, powder coating formulations, corrosion and maintenance systems and many more.
Company audits and evaluations of production processes as well as help in modernising sales and marketing strategies can also be carried out.
Dr. Josef H. Jilek received his Diploma in Chemical Technology and his B.Tech. Degree from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1972 and 1975, respectively. Between 1973 and 1975 he was employed by Inmont of Canada Ltd. in Toronto where he was involved in the development of water soluble and UV curable coatings. He continued his studies in the Polymers and Coatings Department at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in1979.
After graduation he joined the Epoxy Resins Group of Dow Chemical in Horgen, Switzerland, where he was responsible for technical service and development of functional powder coatings in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East and, from 1980 to 1983, he was also Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Powder Coatings” of the “Technology Marketing Corporation” in Norwalk, Connecticut.
He successfully established DOW as the major supplier of epoxy resins for pipeline coatings in Europe and the Middle East. A major order for 1000 metric tons of epoxy resins worth more than US $2 million was received from Saudi Arabia in 1984.
In 1983 he joined the newly formed Diversification Department at Dow Chemical in Rheinmünster, Germany where he was involved in composites technology for Dow Pipe Systems, developing filament wound glass fiber reinforced plastic pipes. From 1984 to 1986 he was active as Sales Development Manager for Dow Pipe Systems in Vienna, Austria responsible for sales in Switzerland, Austria and Central and Eastern Europe. In this function he succeeded in selling the first government approved GRP pipe line in the Austrian oil fields as well as a major water pipe line to Djibouti through an Austrian engineering company.
From 1986 to 1990 he was group leader in the development laboratories of Isovolta in Vienna responsible for the development of new products and processes for electrical insulation based on prepreg and GRP technology.
In 1991, he joined Rohm and Haas Austria to become Market Development Manager for water based traffic paints in Western and Eastern Europe. He established Rohm and Haas as the leading supplier of emulsions for this industry and increased sales from zero to about 1500 metric tons, representing a value of about US $ 3 million.
In 1995, he became Sales Development Manager for the Polymers and Resins Department. These products are used in the manufacture of paints and coatings as well as for adhesives and sealants.
In this position he was instrumental in setting up and managing a network of agents and distributors in the various countries. He grew the business from sales of 600 metric tons to sales of more than 10 000 metric tons, representing a sales volume of approximately US $ 12 million. Furthermore, he established, coordinated and supervised a viable network of agents and distributors in most of the Central and Eastern European countries.
Dr. Jilek started his own company, VosConsult in 2002. With this company he is involved as an international consultant in the field of polymers and coatings with the main emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe. A large portion of the work involves extensive market studies and identification of major potential key accounts and partners or distributors for a given product or application. Typical clients are Kline Management, Ashland, Organik Kimya, Siemens, Agrana and many others.
In June 2005, he published the "Directory of Paint Manufacturers in Central and Eastern Europe" and in 2011 an update of this directory.
Since 2006, he has also been publishing articles on the paint industries in Poland, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Jordan, Egypt and many other countries in several international journals.
In 2008, he became external expert for the CBI (Center for promoting exports from developing countries to the European Union), an office of the Dutch Foreign Ministry. In this function, he audited and assessed paint companies in Columbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Moreover, in 2015 and 2016, he was instrumental in publishing a European Market Analysis on the CBI Market Intelligence Portal on "Pipes and Process Equipment"
Starting in 2012, he become an external expert for the EBRD (European Bank for Restructuring and Development). In this position, he has advised several clients in Moldova, Turkmenistan, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Major activities included streamlining the sales and marketing operations of the companies as well as improving laboratory and production facilities and modernising the product range.
Dr. Jilek is author and co-author of numerous publications and patents on powder coatings, cationic UV curable coatings and other aspects of coatings technology such as the potential application of positronium annihilation in organic coatings research.
He has also held many lectures on functional powder coatings, photo-sensitised cationic polymerisation, water based coatings as well as glass fibre based rigid laminates at conferences and meetings in Europe, Japan and the U.S.
